Sue L Sumpter

Sue L. Sumpter, 81, of Alton, IL formerly of Godfrey, IL and Plymouth, IL passed away at 11:23 pm Monday January 5, 2026 at LaBella of Alton nursing home in Alton, IL.

She was born on January 22, 1944 in Plymouth, Illinois to Walter and Lola VanFleet Normandin.

Sue was a graduate of Plymouth High School 1962. She moved to the Alton area soon after high school graduation and held various positions. Her greatest joy was her family.

She is survived by her children Joe, Jim, and Dawn, their spouses Megan, JoLynn, Elton Stevenson and her grandchildren Lola and Tate.Also surviving are her sister Mary Normandin McLean and John Normandin. In addition, Sue is survived by her sister and brother-in-laws John and Jackie, Carol, Vicki, and Tom Sumpter – all from Alton and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Anna Mae Normandin Watson and brother Richard Allan Normandin.

A Funeral service will be held on Saturday January 17th at Faith Lutheran Church in Augusta at Noon. All friends and family are welcome.

Visitation will be held on Friday January 16th at Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL from 4pm to 7pm to remember Sue and celebrate her life.

Burial will be in Friendship cemetery near Tennessee, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to: 5A’s Animal Shelter, 4530 N. Alby Street, Godfrey, IL 62035.
