Shirley Burton

July 11, 1936 — October 18, 2025

Mrs. Shirley Ann Burton, 89, of Paloma, IL, passed away at 8:05 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Timber Point Health Care Center in Camp Point, IL.

Born July 11, 1936, in St Mary IL, Shirley was the daughter of Henry and Laura Henderson Mayall. She married Ralph Frakes in 1952. She later married Lyle L. Burton on November 8, 1980, in Macomb, IL. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1995.

Shirley was employed in the laundry department at St. Francis Hospital and later at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. She was a member of the Paloma United Methodist Church and Coatsburg Paloma Lioness.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Timber Point Health Care Center for the loving care Shirley received while residing there. She loved working in her yard, cleaning houses and spending time with her family. She cleaned the Paloma UMC for years and she said she felt such peace when she was there.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue Dickhut (David) of Fowler, IL; her grandchildren, Dustin Dickhut (Jenny) of Quincy and Mandi Dickhut (Mike) of Paloma; her great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Anthony, and Xander; a very special family, Eric and Martha Peters and their children, Sean, Connor, Teagan, Quinn, and Kathleen, who all lovingly called her “Grandma”; and her brother, Keith Mayall (Bonnie) of Plymouth, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Barbara and Marilyn Mayall; and her brother, Karl Mayall. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, at the Paloma United Methodist Church by Lois Sorrill. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery in Plymouth.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Paloma United Methodist Church or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
