Scharlene L. “Cooki” Akers, 82, of Plymouth, IL passed away peacefully at 6:25 am Thursday October 9, 2025 at the home of her daughter, Lynda in Blandinsville, IL.
She was born on August 30, 1943 near Plymouth, IL to Charles and Grace VanBrooker DuBois. She was united in marriage to William J. “Bill” Akers on September 16, 1961 in Plymouth, IL. He preceded her in death on January 27, 2007.
Cooki was a graduate of Plymouth High School. She worked as a school bus driver for many years and also drove over the road with her husband Bill for Gully Transportation. Upon her retirement she enjoyed transporting the Amish community and considered herself as an Amish Uber! She was active with the Plymouth Old Settlers over the years and served as a volunteer EMT for the Tri-Village Ambulance service for many years.
She is survived by her three children, Larry (Penny) Akers of West Point, IL, Brenda (Kurt) Neff of Carthage, IL and Lynda (Eric) Kruzan Icenogle of Blandinsville, IL, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Butch DuBois and a sister, Virginia Potter.
Cremation has been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Saturday October 18, 2025 at the Plymouth Circle Community Center (former Plymouth Methodist Church) in Plymouth, IL Private burial will be held in Rosemont cemetery in Plymouth. Memorial contributions may be made to the Plymouth Old Settlers. The Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL is handling arrangements.
