Sandy Stabler

Sandra Mae (Durfee) Stabler, 84, of Camp Point, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 1:15 PM at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, surrounded by her family. Sandra was born in Quincy, IL, the youngest of two children to Francis Dale and Frances Mae (Wilkey) Durfee. Dale and Mae introduced Sandy to her big brother, Max Dale Durfee, on June 17, 1941.

1959 was an eventful year for Sandra. She graduated from Central High School, completed beauty school, and got married. She graduated in the first four-year class to attend the new high school building. After high school, she attended Quincy Beauty Academy. Sandra and Gene Gay (Reek) Stabler were married on November 25, 1959, at Columbus Christian Church by Reverend Bill Maynard.

She started her career at Steppes Beauty Salon in Quincy, IL, followed by Rose Drug Store with Kay Beebe. After the birth of her two children, she opened her in-home salon in 1964, providing her the opportunity to work from home and raise her children until 2001, when she began working in the beauty shop at Timber Point Healthcare for the next 15 years. She then became a part of the activities group at Timber Point until her retirement in August 2021.

She loved raising her two children but enjoyed even more spoiling the four grandchildren they gave her, as well as her seven great-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her universe, and she was theirs. First named “Mammoo” by her first grandson, she became known to all as Mammoo.

She enjoyed many hobbies, including shopping, gardening (vegetable & flowers), crocheting, knitting, sewing, reading, and especially cooking for her family. She knew all of our favorite foods and made it a point to have them when we were together. Having her family near filled her heart with abundant joy. But most of all, she loved being “Mammoo”. Having children (two-legged, four-legged, feathered, or fins), grandchildren, and great-grandchildren filled her heart with overflowing love and joy. She was the definition of strength, kindness, compassion, and love.

Sandra’s love of and faith in Jesus Christ was her life’s guiding light. She never missed an opportunity to share her faith, provide a prayer, or introduce someone new to Jesus. Her prayers for those she loved dearly brought armies of angels to watch over and protect them. She was active in her church, First Christian Church in Camp Point. She was a Sunday school teacher for 3 & 4-year-olds for 20 years, assisted with youth programs, and the ladies' Friendship Circle group. She sang in the choir and ladies' quartet, as well as with her father on many occasions.

Sandra's life was a testament to her love for her family, her dedication to her work, and her commitment to her community and faith. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In the minds of all who knew her, she was the most loving, compassionate, and kind woman who brought joy and happiness to all.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Mae (Wilkey) Durfee, as well as her husband, Gene Gay (Reek) Stabler. Sandra is survived by her fur babies Ebonie, Ellie, and Garfield Stabler, as well as her beloved Charlie bird. Her brother, Max Durfee (Anita) of Osage Beach, MO; children, Kim Stabler of Troy, IL, Tim Stabler (Tracy) of Camp Point, IL. Her grandchildren Jeremy Greene, Maegan Helton (Randy), Trevor Stabler, Jacob Stabler (Lucy) and Drake Wallace. Her great grandchildren Kayden Stabler, Gabriel Stabler, Collin Stabler, Chace Helton, Riley Helton, Leo Stabler, Myles Stabler. Her sister-in-law Jane Stabler, cousin Sharon Lamma, and nieces and nephews Jeff Durfee (Michele), Michelle Baudendistel (Larry), Debbie Bramblett (Robert), Monty Stabler (Susan), Susan DeMoss (Everett), Patrick Stabler, and Diana Butler, as well as many beloved friends and extended family, whom she loved wholeheartedly.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 19, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Camp Point. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Camp Point.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church.
