Ronda Lynn Pickinpaugh was born on October 10, 1964, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, and passed away on September 25, 2024, at the age of 59, at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Virginia.
Ronda was a force of nature—a woman whose personality lit up every room she entered. Growing up in Illinois, she later moved to Virginia in 1983, where she would build an incredible life. Her career in retail management spanned over two decades, working for well-known companies such as Wilco, Hess, 7-11, Wawa, and Murphys. She became a legend in her field, leading with kindness, confidence, and a no-nonsense approach that earned her the title of “Best Boss Ever” from her team. Her ability to lead and inspire was unmatched. Ronda had a way of making people feel valued, and her leadership left a lasting impression on many.
Outside of work, Ronda had a passionate love for collecting dolls, but not just any dolls—she loved the strange and unusual. Her home was like a living museum, with each room decorated to reflect a different side of her vivid imagination. It was her sanctuary, filled with curiosities and artifacts that told the story of a life lived creatively and without boundaries. Her home was a reflection of her own uniqueness—bold, colorful, and full of surprises.
Ronda had a zest for life. She could often be found at the center of any gathering, sharing her infectious laugh and engaging anyone in a lively conversation. She loved playing board games, cards, and shooting pool, where she’d not only beat you but do it while talking smack in the most playful way possible. When Ronda was in the room, there was never a dull moment.
Ronda’s adventurous spirit wasn’t confined to her home. She loved to travel and was always ready for the next big adventure. Whether it was exploring the vibrant streets of New Orleans, taking in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Grand Canyon, sailing through the icy waters of Alaska, or soaking up the sun in the Bahamas, Ronda embraced every opportunity to see the world. She created countless memories with her family, traveling with her sisters, mother, and father to new and exciting destinations. Her wanderlust was contagious, and every trip was an opportunity to celebrate life.
Ronda had a special bond with her dogs, Brandy, Sophia, Snowy, and Stormy. They were her constant companions, always there to greet her with wagging tails and excitement when she returned home after a long day. Their presence was a source of comfort and joy in her life.
Above all, Ronda’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her “one and only daughter,” Nicole Jones, and her beloved grandchildren: Nyla Brewington, Jeleigha Wilson, Astarri Wilson, Jermaine Wilson Jr., and Trezure Crenshaw. Her love for them was fierce, and she delighted in every moment they shared. Ronda is also survived by her father, Gene Pickinpaugh; her mother, Sherrill Fleming, and stepfather, Donnie Lazar; her sisters, Sheri Cordrey (Alan) and Paula Pringle-Powell (Keith); a niece, Sherrill Pringle; two nephews, Michael Howard and Brad Howard; her cherished dog, Stormy; and countless friends and relatives who will never forget her.
Ronda’s legacy is one of laughter, love, and living life to the fullest. She was an explorer, a creator, a leader, and above all, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Her memory will continue to inspire all who were lucky enough to know her. “It’s never goodbye, just see you later—until we meet again.”
Ronda, you will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
