Ramona Ruth Elizabeth Husemann Hunsaker, 90, of Camp Point died Thursday, April 13, 2023, in her home.
Ramona was born in Coatsburg, Illinois on February 20, 1933, a daughter of the late Albert William Husemann and Gertrude Elizabeth Hanke Husemann. She married Robert Hunsaker at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clayton, Illinois on April 1, 1951. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2018.
Ramona began sewing when she was in fourth grade and also enjoyed photography and quilting. Ramona attended grade school at Maple Grove (west of Columbus), Paloma, and Good Shepherd Lutheran. In the summer of 1950, she worked as a cook for the residents of the Adams County Home (located between Coatsburg and Paloma and about a mile south in the country). Ray and Virginia Klassing were the managers. Ramona graduated from Maplewood High School in Camp Point in 1951, six weeks after her marriage to Bob. She lived her entire life in Adams County, except for three years in Norfolk, Virginia, where she joined her husband Bob, who was stationed there in the U.S. Navy. Ramona worked at Sears in Norfolk until Raymond was born. Raymond and Bill were born in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, and Ginny was born in Quincy. For several years, Ramona worked for G&H Hatchery as a contract egg gatherer, picking up as many as a thousand dozen eggs per day. She owned and operated Colonial Cleaners in Camp Point for ten years, from 1966-1976. She is a member of the Adams County Rural Carriers Auxiliary and served as secretary, treasurer, and president. She was active at the First Christian Church in Camp Point. She served as the secretary, treasurer, and president of the Friendship Circle of First Christian Church, was involved in the “Noah’s Ark” program, and is a charter member of the Benevolent Committee. She was involved with the Meals on Wheels program for over 25 years and was also an election judge in Camp Point. Ramona enjoyed spending time with her family, including all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loved traveling with Bob, including 15 winters in Florida.
She is survived by: a son, Raymond John (Cyndi) Hunsaker; a daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Ruth (Michael) Gully; six grandchildren, Michele Lea (Tom) Pickett, Brooke LeAnn Hunsaker, BreAnn Louise (T.J.) Neisen, Robert “Rob” William Gully, Joshua John (Adriana) Hunsaker, Brandon Michael (Alice) Gully; eight great-grandchildren, Mariah Michele Hunsaker, Hannah Mae Pickett, Thomas Lee Pickett Jr., Tanner Joseph Neisen, Jersey Lynn Neisen, Isabel Grace Gully, Timothy Robert Gully, and Walker John Neisen; and a sister, Carolyn Thuer.
In addition to her parents, Ramona was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert Ward Hunsaker on February 9, 2018; her brother, Delbert John Franklin Husemann on July 20, 2000; and one son, William Emery Hunsaker, who passed on September 2, 2007.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, (April 19, 2023) at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Camp Point by Pastor Richard Fordyce. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Camp Point.
Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the First Christian Church in Camp Point.
Memorials may be made to the Lamoine Christian Service Camp or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
