Mrs. Pansylene Anna “Penny” Stauffer, 99, of Golden Good Shepherd Home, formerly of Clayton, IL, passed away Friday, December 26, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Born September 27, 1926, in Clayton Township, Penny was a daughter of John and Rosetta Hartman Buss. She married Durward Eugene Stauffer on April 10, 1955, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Golden, IL. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1981.
Durward and Penny operated a pizza plant in Godfrey, IL, until his death. Penny then retired and devoted her time to volunteer work in Godfrey, serving at the nursing home, with hospice, and through their church. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and especially loved visiting Hawaii.
Penny lived with her sister, Violet, in St. Louis, MO, for three and one-half years before settling in Clayton. While living in Clayton, she was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), and enjoyed singing in the church choir.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Lois Buss of Clayton, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Lillian LaBorde, Violet Schoening, Fern Pratt, and Rosetta Gasperson; three brothers, Irwin Buss, John W. Buss, and Eilert Buss.; two sisters-in-law, Jeannette Buss and Gertrude (Buss) Cutsinger; and four brothers-in-law, Tony LaBorde, Melvin Schoening, Tom Pratt, and Basil Gasperson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clayton, with Rev. Kirk Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clayton.
Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Golden Good Shepherd Home.
