Norma M Gronewold

Norma M. Gronewold, 90, of Golden, IL died at 9:55 am Wednesday September 4, 2024 at the Good Shepherd Home in Golden, IL. 

She was born on December 28, 1933, to John and Helen Kaden Herren at West Ely, Mo. She was united in marriage to Larry Gronewold on December 21, 1957, at West Ely Lutheran Church and he survives. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage. 

Norma attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School at West Ely and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1951. Norma and Larry farmed together, their entire married life at La Prairie, IL. Norma was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden, IL. and served as Sunday school teacher, youth leader for 14 years, and member of the Ladies Circle. Norma, was also part of the church alter guild committee and served on church council. Norma was a 60 plus year member of the Chatton Home extension, and served on the Golden Good Shepherd Auxiliary. Norma enjoyed her family most, camping, boating and water skiing, snow skiing, and riding and raising Quarter horses. She loved her ladies bridge club and cards of all kinds. 

In addition to her husband Larry, she is survived by her special daughter Leslie Frese, and her husband Greg of La Prairie, Ill. Her two beloved grandsons, Clint, and his wife Catelyn of Augusta, and their sons, Aaden, Larren, and Rolen, Clayton and his wife Jessica of Golden, and their children, Rayanne, and Bennett and several nieces and nephews, also survive. 

She was preceded in death, by her parents, 2 brothers, Reinhard( Nellie) Herren, Victor ( Loretta) Herren, 3sisters, Elma (Richard) Lehenbauer, Lillian ( Jesse) Wieters, Irene (F. Eugene) Wilson 2 nephews, Everett Herren and Terry Lehenbauer, her in- laws, Ed and Erma Gronewold and her brother in law and sister in law, Wilmer and Norita Cassens. 

Norma’s family would like to personally thank and recognize her caregivers, Kandy Yocum, Angie Knight, and Amanda Hill, who cared for Norma while she was still at her home and the staff of the Golden Good Shepherd home for all their love, kindness, and care, while she was a resident there.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday September 9, 2024 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 209 Congress St. Golden, IL with Pastor Jeff Corson officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran cemetery in Golden, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 Sunday September 8, 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community for Christ Assistance Center, Golden Good Shepherd Home or the donor’s choice.
