Merlin W. Dorethy, 86, of Macomb, IL formerly of Plymouth and Colchester, IL went to be with the angels at 8:00 pm Wednesday March 1, 2023 at the Grand Prairie Assisted Living Center in Macomb, Illinois.
He was born on March 19, 1936 in Macomb, IL to Luther “Bill” and Elsie Harter Dorethy. He married Charlotte Hatch on September 10, 1955 in Plymouth, IL. She survives.
Merlin was a 1954 graduate of Plymouth High School. He was employed with the McDonough County Highway Dept and also worked as a mechanic and truck driver. He was a member of the Plymouth Methodist Church. Merlin served in the Army National Guard from 1954 – 1963.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, hunting mushrooms and mowing lawns.
He is survived along with his wife Charlotte by a daughter, Melody Dorethy of Colchester, Il, a son, Mark (Janine) Dorethy of Tennessee, IL, 2 granddaughters, Heather (Matthew) Parkin of Carthage, IL and Haley (Spencer Raleigh) Dorethy of Macomb, IL and 8 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Bebe Ann (Robert) Dobbins, 4 nephews, 1 niece and numerous cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in laws, Evelyn and Gilbert (Doc) Hatch and a sister, Marlene Kimble and her husband, Jerry Kimble.
Cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday March 12, 2023 at the Plymouth Circle Community Center in Plymouth, IL with Rev. Jim Clayton officiating. Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of service at the community center. Inurnment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Garden in Macomb, IL at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Plymouth Circle Community Center or the Plymouth Old Settler’s Association.
