Mary L. Schaffer, 91, of Sunset Home, (formerly of Quincy) died at 7:47 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the home.
Born November 10, 1931, in Lewis County, Missouri, Mary was the daughter of J.C. and Helen Doren Newberry. She married George Edward Schaffer on August 7, 1949, in Canton, MO. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2012.
Mary was a member of Madison Park Christian Church and attended Bible study at Firebrand Ministries. She was a graduate of Dallas City Community High School and Gem City Beauty Academy. Mary owned and operated a salon out of her home throughout her life.
Survivors include her children, Michael Edward (Jacki) Schaffer, Quincy, and Viki Lynn (John) Gregowicz, Riverton, IL.; five grandchildren, Christopher Michael Schaffer, Jeremiah Stephen (Lindsay) Schaffer, and Caleb Michael Schaffer, all of Quincy, Matthew Donovan (Jennifer) Brewer, New Berlin, IL., and Nicholas Adam (Jessica) Waterkotte, Auburn, IL.; eight great-grandchildren, Hanna, Paige, Eli, Carter, Abby, Nathan, Lainey, and Briggs; and her brother, James (Sandy) Newberry, West Burlington, IA.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great-grandson, Miles Waterkotte, and two sisters, Esther Ann Newberry and Doris Jean Hiller.
A service will be conducted at the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum, 5200 Broadway, Quincy, IL. at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023, by Pastor Mike Floyd.
A visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.
