Marilyn J Schroeder

September 27, 1939 — March 31, 2023

     Marilyn J. Schroeder, 83, of Quincy, IL, passed peacefully at 10:05 a.m. Friday,
March 31, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL, with her children at her bedside.
     Born September 27, 1939, in Quincy, Marilyn was the daughter of Horner and
Beulah Emma McIntire Myers. She married Fred T. Schroeder on February 15, 1964, at
Christ Lutheran Church in Normal, IL. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2019.
     Marilyn was born and raised in Camp Point, IL, where she graduated from Central
High School in 1957. She continued her education at Culver Stockton College in
Canton, MO, graduating in 1962.
     After graduating, Marilyn moved to Bloomington, IL, where she accepted a position
with The Illinois Disciples of Christ Christian Church divisional office. After her marriage
to Fred, they settled in Normal, IL, where they welcomed their two children, Sara in
1965 and Todd in 1966.
     In 1977 the family purchased Sorg Jewelers in Morton, IL, and operated the
business until 1986. After the sale of the business, Marilyn worked in volunteer services
at Christian Apostolic Restmor, a long-term care facility in Morton. From there she was
employed as the Divisional Director of Volunteer Resources at The Salvation Army in
Peoria, IL, until her retirement. In 2002, Fred and Marilyn moved to Quincy to be closer
to their family.
     Marilyn was active in volunteer work serving on the board of directors for We Care,
Inc. in Morton, Crittenden Care and Counseling in Peoria, Lutheran Hillside Village in
Peoria, the Alzheimer's Association Advisory Boards in Quincy and Peoria and the
Stone Creek Homeowners Association in Quincy.
     Marilyn also very much enjoyed singing with the Quincy Symphony Chorus. She was
an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy.
     Surviving are her children: Sara (Craig) Bell, Bellevue, WA, Todd Schroeder, Quincy,
her grandson Austin Schroeder, Dublin, CA, her niece Jill (Roger) Higgins, LaPrairie,
and her nephew Jon (Jodi) Myers, Camp Point.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother and sisterin-law Jim and Joanne Myers.
     A private family burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Camp Point. A memorial
service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Our Redeemer Lutheran
Church, 2701 College Avenue, Quincy, IL, by Rev. Martin Eden.
     Memorial donations may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
