Marianna Pontius

     Marianna Jean Pontius, 92, of Bickford Cottage in Quincy, IL., (formerly of LaPrairie, IL.) died at 6:17 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the home.
     Born January 2, 1931, in Granger, MO., she was the daughter of Clifford and Gladys Cline Glover.  She married Donald Eugene Pontius on June 18, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Keokuk, IA. by a relative, Rev. Cletus Hammon. He preceded her in death on September 18, 2007.
     Marianna graduated from Keokuk Senior High School in Keokuk, IA. in 1948. She joined her husband Eugene in the planning, construction, and managing of nursing homes in the 1960s. The last one was built in Mt. Sterling, IL., opening in 1968, with a special room designed for their severely handicapped son to occupy as his home. Marianna was the administrator of the Mt. Sterling Nursing Home for over 19 years retiring in 1987. She moved to LaPrairie to enjoy her retirement with her husband and became a farmer's wife. Through the years she served on numerous church boards including the board of directors, taught Sunday School, was a director for many years, and was a member of the women's church groups.  She enjoyed photography, crocheting, and traveling as well as being a member of the Home Extension and C.A.S.H. Investment Club. She and her husband loved to travel and visit every state in the United States as well as many countries in Europe and Asia. They acted as delegates on a trip to China with the Nursing Home Association. They re-established relationships with the German Pontius families in Berglangenback and Wiesbaden Germany.
Marianna and Gene had a special bond with their extended family that brought much joy into their lives
     Survivors include her two sons, Joey Pontius, Mt. Sterling, and Michael Lee Pontius, Quincy;  her sister, Wanda Lyons (Bill), San Marcos, TX.; her sister-in-law, Shirley Glover, Mt. Pleasant, IA.;  her niece, Gail Shoemake (Nick), Alpharetta, GA.; and her cousin, Mary Landwehr (Mikal), Keokuk, IA.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, twin sisters, Darlene and Dorothy Hutcherson, and two brothers, Donald and Leon Glover.
     Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (May 12, 2023) at the Camp Point United Methodist Church. The interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
     Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday (May 11, 2023) at the Camp Point United Methodist Church.
     Memorial may be made to the Camp Point United Methodist Church in care of Lummis Hamilton Funeral Home, PO Box 255, Camp Point, IL. 62320
