Ladena D. Sawin, 95, of Camp Point, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Born October 22, 1928, in Kellerville, Ladena was the daughter of Don and Reta Faye Syrkel Gunn. She married Harold "Jim" D. Sawin on July 6, 1947, in Quincy. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2008.
Ladena grew up in Kellerville riding a pony to school. She had fond memories of working at the cafe her parents owned in Camp Point. Ladena enjoyed telling stories about the Monkton Brothers coming to collect the winnings out of the slot machines and other activities from the 1930's and 40's. She was an excellent pie baker and all around great cook.
Ladena loved her yard and flowers along with Bailey Park. She grew up an only child and was overjoyed about gaining a new family when she married Jim. She treasured her friendships with her new in-laws. Later in life, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her children; Mike Sawin and his wife Priscilla, Keller, TX, and Sherry Ward and her husband John, Quincy; her grandchildren, Brian Dickhut and his wife Barb, Camp Point, TJ Dickhut and his wife Alison, Golden, Nicole Willing and her husband Roger, Quincy, and Angie Ward, St. Louis, MO; her great-grandchildren, Brody D. Hamann (Jade), Dylan Dickhut, Keaton Dickhut, and Blake Willing; and her great great grandchild, Everleigh H. Hamann.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter and son-in-law, Janet Sawin Dickhut and Kent Dickhut, her daughter in infancy, Jill; and three nephews, Ronald Cornell, Jeff Cornell, and Kenny Lee Sawin.
Graveside services will be held Saturday morning at 11:15 at Hebron Cemetery in rural Camp Point.
Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:30 until 11:00 at the Lummis-Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bailey Park.
