John Herbert Pritchard, 65 of Clayton, IL, passed away at 5:20 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Timber Point Health Care Center in Camp Point, IL, after a yearlong battle with lung cancer.
Born February 1, 1961, in Lincoln, IL, he was soon adopted by Herbert and Janice (Hart) Pritchard. He grew up on their farm in Pea Ridge Township (Brown County) and attended Timewell Grade School and Chaddock in Quincy. They left the farm in 1979 and moved to Clayton.
He spent several years in Denver, CO, living with his Aunt Roberta and helping his cousin Dave at his auto body shop. John enjoyed attending toy shows, dirt track car races, and tractor pulls. He loved Hot Wheels and was an avid NASCAR fan, and his favorite driver was “The King” Richard Petty (#43).
Survivors include his brother, Michael (Linda) Pritchard of Timewell, IL; his niece, Brandy (Matt) Williams, of Camp Point, IL: Aunts Heidi Hart of El Paso, TX and Judy Dyer and Uncle Sam (Connie) Giamarvo, both of Colorado Springs, CO; a great friend, cousin Dave Dutton of Trinidad, CO; and his beloved cats, “O” and “Garfield”.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his foster brother, Robert “Bobby” Glenn.
Per his wishes, John was cremated.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Lummis Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point, IL. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be at Becam Cemetery in Pea Ridge Township.
Memorials may be made to the Community for Christ Assistance Center Food Pantry in Camp Point.
