Mr. John A. Juett, 87, of Clayton, passed away at 4:31 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Born August 11, 1936, in Quincy, John was the son of Ernest and Rose F Vollbracht Juett.
John was a 1955 graduate of Augusta High School and attended Western Illinois University where he received his engineering certificate. He enlisted in the US Army in June of 1958. John started his military career at Ft. Leonard Wood. He was stationed at numerous bases throughout the United States during his career. He also spent several tours of duty overseas with the 553rd Engineers Company A 1st Battalion including time in; Orleans, France, from 62-65, Soul, South Korea, three tours in Saigon, Vietnam in the late 60s, Bangkok, Thailand, again in Vietnam from 71-72, before finally landing in Germany in 1977 until his retirement in 1981. Throughout his 23-year military career, John received a multitude of awards and medals including a Bronze Star during his service in Vietnam.
John was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing softball, volleyball, and basketball, and was an exceptional bowler. He served as the President of the Quincy Area Bowling Association and made many friendships through his love of bowling.
In most recent years, John spent his time on the farm south of Clayton, tending to his livestock and enjoying life on the farm.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Butler, Camp Point.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Jim Butler.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Clayton. Burial with military honors will follow at the South Side Cemetery, Clayton.
Visitation will be held Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Clayton.
