John F. "Freddie" Janssen

     John F. "Freddie" Janssen, 86, of Golden Good Shepherd Home, (formerly of Coatsburg), passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the home.
     Born September 1, 1937, in Coatsburg, Freddie was a son of Bernd V. and Fredericka "Rickey" Louise Schaefer Janssen. He married Norma Lea McDowell on June 17, 1962. She survives.
     Freddie was a 1955 graduate of Maplewood High School in Camp Point. He farmed with his brother Gerald until his retirement in 2017.
      He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Coatsburg and the Coatsburg Lions Club were he received the Melvin Jones Award. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from May 1959 until March 1965.
     Surviving in addition to his wife is his daughter, Lori Sprenger, Atlanta, GA.; his granddaughters, Lauren (Andy) Oldenburg, Columbia, MO., and Taylor Sprenger (John Cottrell III), Clarksville, MO; his mother in law, Mildred Eileen McDowell, Mt. Sterling; his siblings, Bert Janssen, Quincy, Gerald (Ruth) Janssen, Coatsburg,  Valla Lou (Dick) Dieterle, Camp Point, and Patricia Kackley, Camp Point; and several nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bradley Dean Janssen; his grandson, Garrett Dean Sprenger; a brother, Robert Janssen; his father in law, Forrest L. McDowell; and his brothers in law, Forrest Eugene McDowell, and Ira Kackley.
     Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Coatsburg by Rev. Patricia Reep. Burial will follow at Graymount Cemetery, Coatsburg.
     Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Coatsburg.
     Memorials may be made to Graymount Cemetery or St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
