Mr. Ivan E. Wharton, 83, of Quincy, IL (formerly of Camp Point, IL), passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
Born on January 1, 1942, at home in rural Clayton, IL, Ivan was the son of Dallas Wharton and Anna Irene Goertz. He married Betty Hibbert on March 28, 1986, at the Camp Point United Methodist Church in Camp Point, IL.
Ivan was a hardworking and multi-talented man. Over the years, he farmed, sold insurance, raised horses, restored numerous historic homes, and built many new ones—including the last home on Arrowhead Drive in Camp Point. He is fondly remembered by many for his service to The State Bank of Hull, which became Omni Bank, where he worked from 1966 until retiring as President and CEO in 1996.
A devoted member of the Camp Point United Methodist Church, Ivan lived his life with commitment, generosity, and love for his family and community.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Rusty Wharton (Tonia) and Sharisse Nemes (John); his stepchildren, Jeff Hibbert (Heika), Shelly Drebes (Scott), Bob Hibbert (Vicki), Barb Woods (Mike), Bev Kingdon (Randy), Brian Hibbert (Clara), and Brad Hibbert (Glenda); his grandchildren, Taylor Miller (Logan), Connor Wharton, Paige Kindle (Jarrett), Elena Holman (Cody), Rachel Nemes (Dustin Duff), Eli Hibbert, Liam Hibbert, Tyler McClennan, Madison McClennan, Mitchell McClennan, Samantha Hibbert, J.D. Hibbert, Lindsay Jara (David), Matthew Stenger, Marie Stenger, Renae Kerrigan (Kyle), Eric Kingdon (Brit), Jacob Hibbert (Ashley), Abbigail Hibbert (Nathan Denny), and Sam Hibbert; and his great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Bennett, Jackson, Coco, Simone, Remy, Stella, Rosemary, Henry, Jackson, Maggie, Alexandria, Savior, Isaiah, and August.
Also surviving are his siblings, Jim Kindhart (Becky Barlow) and Mary Smith (Don), along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas Wharton and Irene Evans; his stepfather, Everett Kindhart; his brother, George Robert Wharton; and his grandson, Tanner Wharton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Camp Point United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Camp Point.
Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, July 1, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Camp Point United Methodist Church or to The Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer research.
