Howard Toland

Howard K. Toland, 73, of Augusta, IL died at 2:53 pm Monday November 13, 2023 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

He was born on November 10, 1950 in Macomb, IL to Donald “Jr” and Glenna Maye Mellon Toland. He married Ginger Evans on November 10, 2011 in Carthage, IL. She survives.

Howard was a 1968 graduate of Augusta High School and a 1972 graduate of Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. He was engaged in farming for many years and also was employed as a Rehabilitation Counselor with the State of Illinois. Howard was an avid car collector and enjoyed working and restoring them. He was a member of the Pea Ridge Tractor Club and enjoyed side by side riding and just being with his friends. He was a Chicago Cubs fan and a Kansas City Chiefs fan.

He is survived along with his wife Ginger by a sister, Patty Recksieck of Quincy, IL, a step-daughter, Adeline VanNattan of Macomb, IL, a stepson, Ed (Jana) VanNattan of Vermont, IL, 4 step grandsons, Lucas (Taylor) VanNattan, Jason Gossage, Chuckie Thomas and John Fowler, a step-great-grandson, Theo VanNattan and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steven J. Toland, his parents, 2 brothers-in-law, Jack Recksieck and Jack Evans and a sister-in-law, Nikie Evans.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday November 17, 2023 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL with Andy Rector officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Augusta. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Thursday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Stagger Inn in Augusta following the burial at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Project Christmas Basket in Augusta or Woodlawn Cemetery Association in Augusta.
