Greg M. Knapp, 75, of Clayton, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at his home.
Born June 24, 1948, in Greencastle, Indiana, Greg was the son of Calvin and Ruth Gregory Knapp. He married Jeanette A. Ohnemus on March 26, 1977, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2006.
Greg enjoyed working in the food industry and worked as a cook at the Illinois Veterans Home, as a Food Supervisor at St. Mary's Hospital, and after 21 years retired from the Department of Corrections as a Food Supervisor at the Clayton Work Camp. Greg drove a school bus for the Camp Point Unit #3 School District after his retirement.
Greg enjoyed baking and frequently made cinnamon rolls for family and friends. He often provided donuts for the 8:00 a.m. coffee group and was a St. Louis Cardinal fan. Greg served as church organist for St. Edward and St. Joseph churches and enjoyed swimming at the YMCA.
Surviving is his daughter, Julie L. Knapp, Quincy; his brothers, Steven R. Knapp and his wife Colleen, Belleville, IL., and Scott D. Knapp, Nashville, TN; his sister, Jane M. Walling, Nashville; his brothers-in-law, James Ohnemus and his wife Ann, Fowler, IL., and Duane Collett and his wife Konnie, St. Charles, MO.; his nieces, Sarah Venverloth and her husband Kirk, and Beth Knapp; and his nephews, Tom Collett and his wife Renata, Dave Collett and his wife Nicky, Scott Ohnemus and his wife Angie, Mike Ohnemus and his wife Laura, Steve Ohnemus, Bob Ohnemus and his wife Hillery, and Mark Knapp.
In addition to his wife Jeanette, he was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Ruth Knapp; his father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Mable Ohnemus; a brother-in-law, Tom Walling; and a sister-in-law, Mary Collett.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, (July 22, 2023) at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, rural Quincy by Rev. Scott Snider. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, rural Quincy.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, rural Quincy.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Church or CUSD #3 for transportation.
