Phillip Eugene “Gene” Collins, 89, of Quincy, IL, formerly of Golden, IL, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 3:40 am Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
He was born on June 26, 1936, in Oquawka, IL, the son of Arthur and Mildred (Parson) Collins. He was united in marriage to Marlene Graham on July 25, 1964, in Augusta, IL. She survives.
Gene was a 1956 graduate of Central High School. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the Panama Canal for 2 years with the United States Navy. He was employed for many years as parts sales manager at Eicken Implement in Golden until its closing, and then served as parts manager for B&B Livestock in Camp Point until his retirement.
He was a man of deep faith, finding daily comfort in reading his Bible and placing his trust in God, which guided his life and brought him lasting peace. He lived a full and meaningful life, enjoying reading, cooking meals for his family, and spending time outdoors. He generously gave of his time through volunteer work with the Boy Scouts, church activities, and the Golden Marigold Festival, and was widely known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others.
He is survived along with his wife Marlene, by a son; Jeffrey Collins of Quincy, IL, a daughter, Dana (Bill) Phillips of Coatsburg, IL, five grandchildren, Chevy (Eric) Myers, Luke Collins, LeeAnn (Zach) Bickhaus, Sara Phillips and Cassie Phillips, five great-grand children, Jared, Reece (Sean), Mason, Lincoln and Maverick, three great-great grandchildren, Dawson, Opal, Beau and one arriving in 2026, one brother; Bill Collins in Washington state, one sister, Maude Meyer of Oquawka, IL. A sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Brainard Passley, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Jim and Ray Collins, a sister-in-law, Dani Collins, and a brother-in-law, Marvin Graham.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL, with Rev. Dixie Croxton officiating. Burial will follow at Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Jensen Woods Camp or Chadddock.
