Gayla Smith

Gayla M. Smith, 63, of Bowen, IL passed away at 7:20 am Sunday May 31, 2026 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

She was born on April 16, 1963 in Columbus, GA to Robert and Sharon Carr Nichols. She was united in marriage to Terry E. Smith in 1983 near LaPrairie, IL. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2023.

Gayla was a 1981 graduate of Southeastern High School. She was employed for many years with the Red Cross. Gayla enjoyed any outdoor activities especially fishing. She was a very avid and talented artist working in pencil sketching, oils and water colors. She loved kids and animals!

She is survived by a son, Jesse Smith of Quincy, IL, a grandson, Nicholas Smith of Quincy, IL, 3 brothers, Kelly (Kim) Nichols of Gurnee, IL, Kyle Nichols of Lookout Mountain, GA and Mike (Pam) Nichols of Bowen, IL along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Amanda Maxine Smith.

Cremation has been accorded. A private family burial will be held at Oak Valley cemetery near Warsaw, IL at a later date.

The Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL is handling arrangements.
