Gay Gunn

June 21, 1934 — February 28, 2024

Gay Gunn, 89, of Golden Good Shepherd Home, formerly of Camp Point, IL., passed away at 3:12 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the home.
Born June 21, 1934, in Quincy, IL., Gay was the daughter of Virgil B. and Emma (Heydon) Geers.
Gay was a 1952 graduate of Quincy Senior High. She was honored to serve as "MC" for many class reunions over the years. She attended Culver Stockton College for two and half years majoring in physical education.
As a teenager, Gay worked for her father at Geers Grocery. She also worked at Roderick P. Miller and Moorman's Manufacturing in Quincy.
In 1957, on a summer night, Jerry Lee Gunn saw Gay Geers at the The Barn on 36th Street. Gay was on the dance floor and Jerry said to his friend, "I'm gonna marry that girl." After three failed attempts, Jerry told Gay when she was ready to get married, she could ask him. Gay proposed!
Gay and Jerry were married on June 28, 1958, at St. Rose Church. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2018.
Gay was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camp Point. She was active in many ministries. Teaching catechism and preparing children for First Communion gave her the most joy. Through the years, Gay and Jerry opened their hearts and their home to many priests and those that served the church.
Gay lived an active life and enjoyed many athletic endeavors. She excelled at golf, bowling, tennis, ping pong, and anything competitive. She also loved a good bridge game, SKIP BO, lawn darts, and many games that were played with friends and family. Gay was very proud of her golfing accomplishments including a hole-in-one at Spring Lake Country Club in Quincy and multiple Ladies Championships at Arrowhead Heights Golf Course in Camp Point.
She and Jerry loved living, giving, and serving in the Camp Point Community. Gay had an immense love of animals and was a strong advocate for their well-being. Over the years, Jerry and Gay adopted numerous dogs and cats which they provided a loving home. Gunner, who lived 17 years, was a frequent companion of Gay’s in the golf cart at Arrowhead.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. Gay lived every day to the fullest, was exuberant, generous, and loved her life and all the people in it. She is now reunited with her greatest love, Jerry Lee Gunn, who preceded her in death on August 8, 2018.
Surviving are her children, Jeff Gunn and his wife Wendy, Camp Point, and Julie Erwin and her husband Drew, Quincy; her grandchildren, Austin Kestner and his wife Kimberly, Camp Point, Andrea Frame and her husband Dustin, Mt. Juliet, TN., Audrey Mancini and her husband Adam, Buffalo, NY., Alysha Kestner, San Diego, CA.,  Adlai Erwin, Denver, CO., Ashtyn Erwin, Aspen, CO., Aubrey Erwin, Oxford, MS., and Alden Erwin, Quincy; an aunt, Mary F.
