Galene Marie Schafer

Mrs. Galene Marie Schafer, 71, of Clayton, IL (formerly of Colorado), died at 5:22 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Born April 13, 1955, in Colby, KS, Galene was the daughter of Delbert Galen Smith and Gwendolyn Geraldine (Davis) Smith. On September 1, 1979, Galene married Larry Dean Schafer in Commerce City, Colorado. He survives.

Galene graduated from Golden Plains High School in Rexford, KS. She worked in service administration with McCandless International, where she was employed for more than 20 years.

Above all else, Galene's family was her greatest love. She treasured the time she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family. She will be deeply missed.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Larry, are her children, Emily Nichole Cooper and Travis William Schafer; her brothers, Frank Neal Smith and Marc Allen Smith; and her grandchildren, Noah Cooper, Elana Montoya, Chloe Schafer, Averie Cooper, Jaycee Cooper, and Jaxon Cooper.

Galene was preceded in death by her parents.

In keeping with Galene's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
