Dorothy Schluter

Dorothy M. Schluter, 92, of Quincy, IL, formerly of Bowen, IL, passed away peacefully at 12:07 pm Friday, October 10, 2025, at Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, IL. 

She was born on April 11, 1933, in Coatsburg, IL, to Elmer and Freda Hyer Stansbery. She was united in marriage to Kenneth A. Schluter on April 11, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage, IL. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2021. 

Dorothy was a 1951 graduate of Bowen High School. She was employed at the Bowen State Bank for 42 years and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bowen, IL. Dorothy was a loving wife, homemaker, and stay-at-home mother. She sold Avon for many years, was a notary public, Sunday School teacher, and a loyal friend to many people in the Bowen area. 

She is survived by 2 sons: Kent (Wendy) Schluter of Lake St. Louis, MO, Keith (Kathryn) Schluter of Macomb, IL, a daughter, Karen (David) Janssen of Augusta, IL, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clyde Stansbery.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL, by Rev. Mark Hanson. Burial will be in Bowen Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services on Friday. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Bowen Cemetery Association.
