Donald A. Buss, 93, a resident of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL formerly of Golden, IL died at 2:54 pm Sunday August 15, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
He was born on April 9, 1928 in Clayton Township near Golden, Il to Harm and Verda Howk Buss. He married Virginia Flesner on November 2, 1952 in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden, IL. She preceded him in death.
Donald was a 1946 graduate of Golden High School. After graduation he served his country in Korea with the United States Army and received 2 purple hearts. After completing his service he returned to Golden and was employed by Eicken Implement in Golden for 5 years and then farmed for over 50 years retiring in 1992. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden and a lifetime member of the Golden American Legion. Donald was an avid bowler and enjoyed boating, camping and watching football and NASCAR racing on TV.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Toni Gieker (Rex Hicks) of Clayton, IL and Luan Clampitt (Frank Dieterle) of Golden, IL, 4 grandchildren, Kelly (Shawn) Schreacke of Quincy, IL, Carrie Herkert of Camp Point, IL, Max (Sadie) Clampitt of Bowen, IL and Megan Griffin of Golden, IL, 12 great-grandchildren; Nicole, Tiffany, Gavin, Emily, Eric, Levi, Elaina, Conner, Cael, Lucas, Nora and A.J.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Schlueter.
Per Donald’s request cremation has been accorded. A Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am Friday August 20, 2021at Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, IL with Pastor Ronald Graham officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Golden Memorial Gardens cemetery in Golden, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of services Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL is handling arrangements.
