Donald Davis Tooley, 84, of Clayton, Illinois peacefully lost his battle with cancer at 6:12 am, Thursday July 15th at his daughter’s home in Clayton, Illinois.
Born July 27th, 1936, in Chicago, Donald was a son of Delford Davis and Catherine Carmel McNallis Tooley. He married Evelyn Rose Panenka on September 14th 1957, in Lyons Il. She preceded him in death on Sunday, November 10, 2013 in their home.
Don began employment as a type setter in Chicago and then went on to A & P typographers where his father worked as a proofreader. Don eventually moved his family down to Clayton Illinois where he was a self-employed in the construction field.
Don was very active in Catholic Heart Work Camp with the youth from St. Thomas Parish in Camp Point. They went on mission trips all over the united states doing construction work. During the Lenten season, he served his Parish by cooking the fish for their fish fries. Another mission near and dear to Donald’s heart was Cursillo and Teens Encounter Christ, in which he served in many capacities for over three decades. One of his favorite past times was reading, but his most enjoyable thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his two sisters, Sue Clark, Jean Ceh (Tom); one brother Tom Tooley; four daughters, Dianne Lynn Buckman (Paul), Nancy Ann Nelson, Patti Ann Yates (Mark), and Cathy Jean Hays (Randy); one son, Robert joseph Tooley; eighteen grandchildren, Brian Tooley (Gretchen Homeyer), Danika Bounkhoul (Karim), Angela Graff, Ashley Shriver (Matt), Molly Moore (Josh), Jonathan Graff, Justin Kamm (Heather), Eddie Fiala, Joseph Yates (Rina), Daniel Yates, Pearl Leanard, Scott Yates, Craig Davis, Chris Davis, Sarah Boll (Greg), Elizabeth Tooley, Benjamin Tooley, and Ellen Tooley; twenty-three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Cooper, and Leigha Tooley, Ella Ruether, Brandyn (Shaely) and Emaly Zwick, Nasseem and Safwan Bounkhoul, Ayden, Riley, Conrad, and Mavrick Shriver, Alexis Teasley, Gentry Allison, Nini Morgan, Addison, Chance, and Lillian Davis, Preston Fiala, Journie Strieker, Bentley and Huxley Boll, and Bennett Yates; two great-great grandchildren, Braelyn and Brynlee Zwick.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife.
Donald’s life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camp Point on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
