Cheryl "Cherie" L Taylor

Cheryl L. “Cherie” Taylor, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, formerly of Golden, Illinois, passed away February 21, 2026.

Born September 24, 1947, in Golden, Cherie was the daughter of Virgil E. and Ilene M. Flesner. She married William B. “Bill” Taylor on December 28, 1968. He survives.

Cherie was baptized, confirmed, and married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden. After working with small children during summer Bible School, she decided to pursue a teaching career. Cherie graduated from the Central High School Class of 1965, attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1969 and her Master’s Degree in Education in 1973.

Mrs. Taylor was an elementary school teacher for 41 years. She began her career in Chatham, Illinois, where she taught for 11 years, and later taught for 30 years at C.E. Bennett Elementary and Lake Asbury Elementary in Green Cove Springs.

Cherie enjoyed movies, traveling, and spending time at the beach. She especially enjoyed visiting Rome, Venice, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria, but her favorite destination was the beaches of St. Augustine, Florida.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; her daughter; and her brother, Jim Flesner and his wife, Cathy, of Scottsdale, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, officiated by Adam Doellman.

Memorials are requested to Trinity Lutheran Church for children’s church or Sunday School programs.
