On this day, December 6, 2025, Bruce Morton, 76, passed to a better place. He was the youngest son of Carlin and Luella Morton of Bowen, IL. He attended Bowen High School, and upon graduation, he attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in photography. He then moved to Arizona, where he studied and received a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography from Arizona State University. Shortly thereafter, he was invited to be a visiting artist in Derby, England. He returned to Arizona and pursued a career in landscaping. After 33 years in business, he retired and moved back to his childhood home, Bowen, IL. Photography was his true passion. He published 3 books and participated in numerous exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe. In 2024, Morton’s lifetime collection of photographs and negatives were accepted for storage, viewing, and research at the Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas, Austin. His photographic work is in many collections around the world. His hobbies included golf, fishing, automobile racing, and attending music concerts. He enjoyed cooking and working in his yard and garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Roy Kent Morton.
Cremation has been accorded. A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2026 at Ebenezer Chapel and Cemetery in Adams County. Memorials may be made to the Living Faith United Methodist Church, Bowen, IL, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN.
