Barry L. Oberling, 79, formerly of Clayton, IL, died Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Barry was born October 6, 1946, in Quincy, IL, the son of Donald and Eileen Lorla Flesner Oberling. He first married Karen Oberling, who preceded him in death after 35 years of marriage. He later married Lin Oberling, who survives.
Barry was a graduate of Central High School. He attended Hannibal-LaGrange College on a basketball scholarship. While attending college, Barry also served as a drum major in the marching band. He later served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Barry had a passion for art and was especially talented in graphic design. He was employed at Titan Wheel in Quincy, where he designed the company's logo. He also won a radio contest to design a logo for GZZK The Grizz radio in Quincy.
Survivors include his wife, Lin; his stepdaughter, Ty Huston; his step-grandson, Cole Campbell; his brother, Bradley Oberling, and his wife, Susan; and his nephews, Michael and Matthew Oberling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Karen Oberling.
Barry was cremated. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2026, at South Side Cemetery in Clayton.
