Opal L. Gooding, 92, of the Timberpoint Healthcare Center, formerly of Paloma, died at 4:05 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the home.
Born November 5, 1925, in Quincy, Opal was a daughter of George and Fannie Fogel Cleesen. She married Melvin Gooding on June 7, 1945, in Quincy. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1988.
Opal enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and motorcycling. She served as past president of the Paloma Lioness Club and was a member from its formation until the club was dissolved in 2017. Opal volunteered at Blessing Hospital for over 30 years.
Mrs. Gooding was a co-owner of Gooding Service in Paloma for several years. She also worked for the United States Postal Service and Motorola in Quincy. She was a member of the Paloma United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Virgil Gooding (Carolyn Ellerman), Coatsburg, and Milton Gooding (Mygan), Lebanon, MO.; her daughter, Janet Wilkey (Larry) , Coatsburg; her daughter in law, Rhonda Gooding, Camp Point; twelve grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin; two sons, Ed Gooding and Kim Gooding; and four brothers, Robert, Jessie, Alex, and Fredrick Cleesen.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 at the Paloma United Methodist Church by Rev. Kyle Frink. Burial will follow in the Paloma Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Lummis Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point.
