David E. Harrison, 70, of rural Carthage, IL died at 5:15 pm Friday April 26, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 15, 1948 in Quincy, IL to Donald and Ermogene Metcalf Harrison. He married Ruth Nelson on March 9, 1974 in Bowen, IL. She survives.
David was a 1966 graduate of Bowen High School and attended Bailey Technical School in St. Louis, MO. He was a lifelong farmer. David proudly served his country in Vietnam with the United States Army serving from 1969 to 1971. He attended the Denver Christian Church. David served on the Hancock County Grain Board, was a past member and Commander of the Bowen American Legion and presently a member of the American Legion and Hancock County Vietnam Veterans. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in the many activities they were involved in. He also enjoyed playing pitch and tractor pulling.
He is survived by his children; Rena (Jon) Rose of Burnside, IL, DeAnn (Chris) Totzke of O’Fallon, IL and Daniel (Cortney) Harrison of Carthage, IL, his grandchildren; Nathan, Alivia and Adley Rose, Claire, William, Grant and Jackson Totzke, a brother; Paul (Donna) Harrison of Bowen, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Ben Nelson and a nephew, Greg Harrison.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday May 1, 2019 at the Living Faith United Church in Bowen, IL with Pastor Joe Little officiating. Burial will follow at Bowen cemetery in Bowen, IL with Military Honors, Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday April 30, 2019 at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Bowen. Memorials may be made to the Hancock County Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Fund or HUGS of Hancock County.
