Sidney “Sid” R. Dowacter, 79, of Good Hope, died Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb. He was born to Ivan and Beatrice (Brown) Dowacter on June 30, 1938. He grew up in rural Plymouth with 1 brother and 5 sisters. In 1956, he joined the Air Force where he was enlisted for 4 years. On May 12, 1957, he married the love of his life, Arletha Perkins, in Keokuk, IA. They were married for 60 years. Sid was a farmer until 1982, when the couple moved to Colorado.

While living in Colorado, Sid worked for the Adams County Highway Department. Playing cards with family and friends was a favorite pastime. He was a very talented woodworker that came in handy while working with his wife doing crafts. He also enjoyed camping, hiking in the mountains with his family, hunting and fishing especially with his kids and grandkids. He most of all enjoyed picking on and annoying his wife!

In 2001, Sid and Arletha moved back to Illinois to be closer to friends and family. Sid always loved spending time outdoors, and he frequently found animals to feed and new pets to bring home. He enjoyed gardening, creating his own inventions and his ways of doing things.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two of his sisters, Roberta (Bertie) Jurgens and Doris Bramkamp.

He is survived by his children, Dannie (Gudwin) Dowacter, Christine (Michael) Dowacter Chase, Carolyn (Randy) Grove and Diana Dowacter. Sid had 6 grandchildren, Carlos Dowacter,  Jose Perez, McKinzie (Daniel) Parlier, Ragan (Michael) Thrasher, Lauren Grove and Diego Perez and 5 great-grandchildren.
