Rita Kay Mitchell, 70, of Fowler, who fought a long hard battle with vascular dementia and cancer, died at 4:25 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at her home.
Born September 27, 1946, in Pittsfield, Rita was a daughter of Guy and Lena Capps McElfresh. She married Dwight Mitchell on November 27, 1971, in Nebo, Illinois. He survives.
Rita was a 1964 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1967 graduate of Gem City Business College. She was employed at the Camp Point Mutual Insurance Company for 24 years retiring in 2012.
Rita was a member of the Columbus Christian Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved in many other activities. She also served as a Little League coach in Coatsburg for several years.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Crystal Harper and her husband Lynn, Camp Point; a son, Andy Mitchell and his wife Jessie, College Station, TX.; four grandchildren, Mackenzie, Haley, and Eli Mitchell, all of College Station, TX., and Landon Harper, Camp Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and two grandchildren, Hayden Lee Harper (grandson) and Presley Kay Harper (granddaughter).
Graveside Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 15 at the Quincy Memorial Park by Teacher John Schafer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus Christian Church.
